If first you explode, go back and explode again

It's 1:30am as I write this; apologizes in advance for any strangeness.

After several months in my own corporation - Sleeper Asset Relocation Services - I have left to join Paul in Honorless Internet Jerks. The choice was mainly driven by Paul's tendency to declare wars on mission-runner corporations which make for easy killing and great hilarity.

I'd previously assisted Paul with intelligence gathering on some of his war targets and was ready with a list of names to find and cause to have a very bad day. You may recall this spectacular series of kills from the middle of February. The corporation we deprived of a Kronos and a Absolution, "Shen's Heroes" is one of the current wars Honorless Internet Jerks has underway.

As soon as Paul approved me for the corp, I used a locator agent to track down 'dlagrone' to Lustrevisk. Paul hasn't blogged about this yet, but we previously found and destroyed an Orca and a Hulk from this fellow. I packed up the fleet and moved over to Lustrevisk. Assuming he was mining again, I checked all the belts but with no results. Assuming he was missioning, I determined the most likely station for him and waited.

Eventually he arrived and I was able to acquire a scan ID on his Drake. As soon as he flew back to the mission I swapped for my Harbringer (more mobile than the Gank Abbadon), landed on top of him and pewed him to bits.

I was pretty happy at this point, but I was astonished to see that he undocked five minutes later in a Raven and warped back to the mission. Assuming he was going to be PvP fit - but feeling confident I could take him - I shuttled back to Dodixie to pick up the Gank Abbadon. Fifteen minutes later I arrive back in Lustrevisk and warped to the mission. Unfortunately he warped just before I could put a point on him and docked up.

Once again, as Paul has said, bet on stupid. But feeling devious I log off Khalia in space and keep an eye on the station with my other accounts. Five minutes pass and out he comes and back to the mission. I give it another two minutes then log in and rapidly probe his ship to get a precise warp point. The Abbadon lands right on top of him, no warp out this time. He makes an attempt to fight back, but all I need is a few minutes and this is the result:

Looking at the killmail, I was amused to see no PvP fit at all. Shortly after all this I saw dlagrone heading toward a gate in a Caldari shuttle.

Don't worry buddy, the locator agent always knows where you are!

Achievement Unlocked: Mission Runner Flees Dodixie

I'm just hanging out in station while doing other things on my computer, and talking with some of the other ninjas.

Ninja kiki mo says she has a mission runner who left, can someone come pew the battlecruiser rats for her? She's kind of new.

So I hop into a tank-fit Apocalypse I have and go to pew the rats. When I get there the mission runner has returned, and opens a chat with me. Thus we get this amusing dialogue:

[ 2010.03.11 07:15:32 ] Khalia Nestune > dude
[ 2010.03.11 07:15:40 ] Khalia Nestune > wtf are you doing in my mission?
[ 2010.03.11 07:15:48 ] Jason Sauders > This is my mission.
[ 2010.03.11 07:15:57 ] Khalia Nestune > no my agent give me this BM
[ 2010.03.11 07:16:05 ] Jason Sauders > Haha, he did me, as well.
[ 2010.03.11 07:16:34 ] Jason Sauders > Wanna fleet up?
[ 2010.03.11 07:16:44 ] Khalia Nestune > already in one with corp boosters
[ 2010.03.11 07:16:50 ] Jason Sauders > HAHA
[ 2010.03.11 07:17:01 ] Jason Sauders > Kiki's your booster?
[ 2010.03.11 07:17:04 ] Khalia Nestune > ... no
[ 2010.03.11 07:17:21 ] Khalia Nestune > you may want to use the 'show info' there
[ 2010.03.11 07:17:38 ] Jason Sauders > Huh.
[ 2010.03.11 07:17:54 ] Jason Sauders > Anyway, kiki's here to rip off the wrecks.
[ 2010.03.11 07:18:03 ] Khalia Nestune > so shoot her
[ 2010.03.11 07:18:16 ] Jason Sauders > Can't; she's not looting.
[ 2010.03.11 07:18:20 ] Jason Sauders > Just salvaging.
[ 2010.03.11 07:18:20 ] Khalia Nestune > ahh
[ 2010.03.11 07:18:24 ] Jason Sauders > Yeah.
[ 2010.03.11 07:18:41 ] Jason Sauders > I've been trying to do this mission for about an hour; leaving when she warps in so that the rats turn on her.
[ 2010.03.11 07:18:52 ] Jason Sauders > I'm pretty much gonna give up, though it looks like she'll probably hassel you.
[ 2010.03.11 07:19:01 ] Khalia Nestune > doesn't seem to be working to well
[ 2010.03.11 07:19:10 ] Jason Sauders > Her ripping off the wrecks?
[ 2010.03.11 07:19:21 ] Khalia Nestune > I meant the warp in / out
[ 2010.03.11 07:19:29 ] Jason Sauders > No, indeed.
[ 2010.03.11 07:19:29 ] Khalia Nestune > she can just come back and check, right?
[ 2010.03.11 07:19:35 ] Jason Sauders > Yes.
[ 2010.03.11 07:19:39 ] Jason Sauders > One would hope she'd give up.
[ 2010.03.11 07:20:01 ] Khalia Nestune > well it does get her isk
[ 2010.03.11 07:20:22 ] Jason Sauders > It does if she can kill the ships.
[ 2010.03.11 07:20:31 ] Jason Sauders > I'm not going to kill them for her; it's isk taken from me.
[ 2010.03.11 07:20:33 ] Khalia Nestune > well, the salvage
[ 2010.03.11 07:21:55 ] Khalia Nestune > so what do you do if she keeps coming back?
[ 2010.03.11 07:22:50 ] Jason Sauders > I'd rather let the mission lapse. In either case, I'm going to go find an agent in less traveled space. Enjoy my wrecks.
[ 2010.03.11 07:23:19 ] Khalia Nestune > o/

I proceeded to kill all the rats, including the new spawns. Kiki looted and salvaged anything. I got a few million in bounties and a security increase; kiki got plenty of loot.

How To Scan For Mission Runners - Fast and Easy

Posted in Ninja Salvaging, The More You Know on March 4, 2010 at 5:42 PM by khalia

Update, 9/11/2011: Due to changes by CCP to the scanning mechanics, this method is outdated. The basics work, but you will instead want to use EIGHT probes: 7 on north-south-east-west-top-bottom-center, and one more center at half size.

Scanning down mission runners is a fundamental skill for everyone in the Ninja Salvaging profession. There are already a number of good video guides for scanning mission runners, including Paul's video, another video by ninja Mecros, and this video by WebangShintoo (nice music).

Instead of doing a video, I've decided to do a static image display of the system I use. The method I use has the advantage of not needing to resize probes and will usually get you a 100% hit by moving probes one or two times. This will not cover the basics of scanning; see the above videos for that.

On behalf of Paul and myself, we thank everyone who helped to get us included in the Eve Online Blog Pack.

According to Paul, the number of unique hits per day has risen from around 100 to 200. o/

Captain Charismatic over at Rifter Experiences has a good writeup of the hilarity we had with a local corporation in Ichoriya.

Go read! Tears and humor abound.
